Currently, we are working on a drive-thru pick up time and it is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, March 31st. I would like to know who still needs their instrument by Monday, March 23rd at 8a.m., so that I can plan. Stay safe and I miss you! Assignment info is coming on my website or via remind March 30th.

Rehearsal Reminders
Solo and Ensemble Rehearsals are:Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2 until 3:55p.m. Solo and Ensemble is TBA at Winter Haven High School.
Please make sure you are ready for your summatives:
  • Fly Me to The Moon A-C for 4th & 5th Period
  • Test on your Bb Major Scale ( You may submit this on EEI at anytime and all tests will happen on March 30)
  • 7th Period C Major Scale and Arpeggio one octave and also on your End Pin Blues A-C.
  • New music is on its way to you. I will either post it here on my website our send it through remind when it arrives.
Stay safe and healthy and remember to wash your hands before and after you play to keep all the germs away.

Solo & Ensemble After School Practices are on Tuesday  from 2:55-3:45p.m.  on March 10. Solo and Ensemble is on April 4 at Winter Haven High School and the schedule will be released soon.


Portfolio Night is Tuesday, March 10th. Please let me know who is staying until it begins if you are performing. I will distribute the schedule on Monday

  • 3/3  After School Prep for Solo and Ensemble and Mark Wood Performance on 3/5
  • 3/5 Mark Wood Performance ( Students attending may wear their orchestra t-shirt and jeans) Report to Mrs. Baker's room at 1:45 we will leave at 2:00p.m. and return at 6:00p.m.
  • 3/10  Portfolio Night Sign up this week for your performance time between 6-7p.m. Students performing can stay after school and Mrs. Baker will order pizza for participants to eat at 5:15p.m.

Weekly Reminders

2/18  Final MPA combined rehearsal until 4:00p.m.  Make sure you are there for our final rehearsal together!
2/19  Reflect and complete the MPA judge sheet with your own thoughts on group performance- rate each piece and turn in for a summative grade.

Orchestra Music Performance Assessment 2020
Friday, February 21, 2020
 
Where:                      Tenoroc High School, 4905 Saddle Creek Rd, Lakeland, FL 33801
 
Attire:                         Formal Concert Music attire
  Black close-toed dress shoes
  Guys need to wear black socks with black dress shoes. 
  No necklaces, beeping watches or bracelets please.
 
What to Bring:         Music, Instrument and come dressed for the performance.
Transportation:       Parents need to pick up their child from the event at Tenoroc between 4:30-5:00p.m. You are welcome to watch our performance and other orchestras in the auditorium while we are in the warm up room. Parents will need to transport student and their instrument from Tenoroc.

The schedule for our MPA Event is as follows:
11:40a.m.        Go to Locker and report to LCMA Bistro for lunch
12:20p.m.        Report to the Bus Loop in Concert Attire with instrument, music and belongings
12:30p.m.        Leave LCMA and report to Tenoroc High School
1:00p.m.          Watch other orchestras perform
                        Concession Time (bring $ if you want to buy snacks)
2:15p.m.          Bathroom Break
2:30p.m.          Tune (in cafeteria)
3:00p.m.          We report to Warm Up Room (all people must be tuned before then.)
3:30p.m.          Stage Performance (Parents are welcome to attend and watch)
4:00p.m.          Sight Reading Room
4:30p.m.          Meet us back in the cafeteria for results, pack up & check out.
 
** Important** Parents will need to pick up their child between 4:30p.m.- 5:00p.m. at Tenoroc High School from the event.  We will be ready for student check out at 4:30p.m.

Tempo is 150 make sure not to slow down in slower section

Dragon Dances Violins Work on Phrasing and Tuning at the beginning
Bow point of contact is the middle of the bow- this is a legato piece so connect each note
Big Dynamic Contracts between the forte and piano and needed
Tempo watch at 73 and make sure not to speed through the rests remember to breathe!
Listen for balance of all sections
Storm the Gates
Bow point of contact is at the frog
Big ACCENTS throughout the marcato spiccato sections needed
Make sure you keep energy throughout the piece with dynamics and consistent bowing and accents
Watch the director to assist with tempos and dynamics

Wear your concert attire to the practice- leave class when they dismiss walkers and Car riders and report to Mrs. Baker's room in attire by 3:15p.m.

  • Tempo is quarter note = 130.
  • 2/12  Solo and Ensemble Registrations are due!

There are 14 class rehearsals until MPA.  We are going to continue focusing on refining the music within the songs we are playing. Please practice getting music up to tempo with the correct finger patterns and articulations.

  • Gauntlet (get articulations, slurs and rhythms throughout.) Are you following the dynamics listed throughout?  You should have it at performance level measures 1-58. WE will work on the B section this week.
  • Jupiter  20-38 (slurs, dynamics, accents, rhythms) Are you phrasing? Pay attention to the 3/4 meter and the slurs within the section. Mark ALL fermatas and watch the conductor.
  • Dragon Dances Dynamics, legato style- are you using the same part of the bow as others around you?
